Bright Past Lights the Way for 2020

01/07/2020

It’s a new year, a new decade. Like many, we’re setting our goals, hopes and dreams for the upcoming year. The future looks bright thanks to our 2019 successes. As we roar into 2020, we celebrate those accomplishments. They warmed our hearts, made us proud and helped us serve our communities, customers, employees and shareholders.

Grid Modernization… We installed our first advanced meter, improved service reliability and added a natural gas-powered plant to our fleet.

Growth… We made investments to expand nuclear operations. Fourteen counties received our economic development grants. Our ACT Bootcamps supported workforce development. A new substation project will help attract large economic development opportunities. Site Selection magazine put us on their list of top utilities in economic development for the 12th year.

Entergy Mississippi's first advanced meter was installed March 4, 2019 in Centreville.

Customer Service… The weather was extreme. We gave customers energy and money-saving tips for both the heat and the cold. And we shared how to get help with high bills that temperature swings brought. Our READI program helped homeowners become more energy efficient. Five years with MISO saved customers millions. We made a commitment to a lower carbon energy future and completed our fiber infrastructure project. Solarity and Marketplace launched to meet customers’ needs.

Entergy Mississippi President and CEO Haley Fisackerly (far right) with C Spire CEO Hu Meena and Mississippi Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley announced completion of a fiber infrastructure project that will help bring broadband internet services to rural Mississippians.

People… Three of our linemen saved a life and received an award for their heroism. We promoted and hired some people, including new customer service and distribution operations leaders and filled key roles in customer service (more than once), regulatory affairs and regulatory legal, finance and power plant operations. Kevin Rogers, Michael Fouche and other all-stars were named Lineman of the Game at Saints games. Earl Phillips, Matthew Warren and Cole Pope presented the Kent Hull Lineman of the Year trophy. We had a safety conversation with Chris Smith and celebrated linemen, engineers and all our employees throughout the year.

Giving Back… Our employees volunteered – a lot! They spruced up their communities, prepared customers’ taxes for free and sent care packages to deployed troops. Besides time, we gave money on behalf of our shareholders to good causes and made a record donation. Some students received college scholarships from us. Points of Light said we’re one of the most community-minded companies in the nation. Dow Jones recognized us for creating sustainable value – for the 18th consecutive year.

Entergy employees present a record-setting donation to The Salvation Army from our shareholders, employees and customers for The Power to Care, which helps elderly and disabled customers pay their electricity bills in times of financial crisis.

Storm Response… Edison Electric Institute recognized our storm response efforts for the 30th time. We remembered how teamwork got us through the 1979 Easter Flood on it’s 40th anniversary. And, we were ready for Hurricane Barry.

On the 40th anniversary of the 1979 Easter Flood, employees and retirees remembered how they pulled together to maintain service to customers.

That was only a glimpse of an amazing year. We’re planning on 2020 being even more brilliant.
