RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas -- Control room operators removed Entergy's Arkansas Nuclear One Unit 2 from service Sept. 20 to begin a refueling outage that brings more than 1,100 additional workers and economic benefits after 465 days of safe, secure and reliable operation.

ANO is investing more than $62.7 million to complete the refueling and other important maintenance projects for unit 2. The investment translates into improvements in margins of safety, reliability and fuel that will allow for another cycle of generating clean, reliable energy. It also yields additional economic activity for the surrounding communities from dozens of vendors and hundreds of additional contract workers.

"Arkansas Nuclear One exists to safely and efficiently operate a world-class nuclear facility that creates sustainable value for our four stakeholders: our community, our employees, our shareholders and our customers.  It is a privilege to be part of a team of dedicated nuclear professionals who met that vision during our last refueling outage and the past 465 days of safe and reliable operation. I am confident the team assembled for this refueling and maintenance outage will deliver a safe and efficient outage resulting in the same or better performance for the next cycle," said Jeremy Browning, ANO site vice president.

Work will be completed by nearly 1,000 ANO full-time employees and supported by Entergy employees from its other nuclear plants and contract workers including pipefitters, millwrights, ironworkers, carpenters, boilermakers, electricians, laborers, valve technicians, engineers, operating engineers and radiation protection technicians.

The influx of more than 1,100 outside workers and their associated spending will provide an economic boost to local communities.

Entergy Corporation is an integrated energy company engaged primarily in electric power production and retail distribution operations. Entergy owns and operates power plants with approximately 30,000 megawatts of electric generating capacity, including nearly 10,000 megawatts of nuclear power, making it one of the nation's leading nuclear generators.
