Entergy Helping Create More Vibrant Economy in Southwest Louisiana
LAKE CHARLES, La. – Entergy Louisiana is continuing to partner with regional organizations to help the state, including southwest Louisiana, grow through economic development.
The company recently provided approximately $122,500 to the Southwest Louisiana Economic Development Alliance to help fund the organization’s efforts to support workforce development, retain businesses in the region and attract new ones to the area and, ultimately, create a more vibrant economy in the parishes of Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron and Jefferson Davis.
“We are grateful to Entergy Louisiana for their continued support of our organization and region,” said George Swift, SWLA Economic Development Alliance president and CEO. “Their investment in the Alliance and our mission shows they’re serious about helping southwest Louisiana recover and prosper into the future.”
“The Southwest Louisiana Economic Development Alliance has been a strong partner helping a region that’s critical to our state and national economy recover, and we look forward to continuing to work with them to secure capital investment, create jobs and help the area grow,” said Perry Pertuit, Entergy Louisiana business and economic development manager.
Through its business and economic development team, Entergy Louisiana works with state and local government agencies, economic development organizations and community partners to support businesses from site selection to groundbreaking, including those operating at the national and global level.
To help businesses determine where to locate or expand, Entergy Louisiana developed and maintains the Louisiana Site Selection Center, an online database of certified sites, or sites that are ready for development. The database includes details about shovel-ready land, including available utilities and transportation access. T.O. Allen Industrial Park North, T.O. Allen Industrial Park South, both in Iowa, and the West Cal Port in Sulphur, are examples of sites Entergy assisted Louisiana Economic Development (LED) in certifying and adding them to the database.
To support site development, Entergy Louisiana provides in-depth research and analyses regarding workforce availability, construction and transportation, to name a few. The company is working on several active projects in southwest Louisiana and continues to partner with SWLA Economic Development Alliance on encouraging new businesses to consider the region home. One of those active projects includes a large rice mill being developed by South Louisiana Rail Facility in the Jefferson Davis Parish community of Lacassine. For 14 years running, Site Selection magazine has named Entergy Corporation as one of the nation's top utilities in economic development.
This year, Area Development magazine recognized Louisiana with a silver shovel award for local economic development efforts and Business Facilities magazine placed Louisiana first for customized training and FTZ activity (imports) in their 17th annual rankings.
