Entergy and nonprofits partner to reduce food insecurity in Louisiana
NEW ORLEANS, La — Entergy Corporation and its Louisiana subsidiaries will provide around $224,000 by the end of the year to food pantries and nonprofits to reduce food insecurity in local communities. The companies’ efforts also extend beyond funding as hundreds of employees volunteered their time this year packing boxes and assisting staff at food pantries across the state.
Partnering organizations help provide nutritious foods and other primary necessities to thousands of families across the state. Examples of organizations Entergy Louisiana and Entergy New Orleans have partnered with this year include:
- Abraham’s Tent Association
- Bethlehem Lutheran Church
- Bogalusa HELP Center
- Care Help of Sulphur
- City of Kenner Food Bank
- Einstein Charter Schools
- Family and Youth Counseling Agency
- Feeding the Needy Ministry
- Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana Inc.
- Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank
- Morehouse Council on Aging
- Salvation Army
- Second Harvest Food Bank
- West Ouachita Senior Center
- United Way
Hunger, according to Feeding Louisiana, affects every parish and community across the state. The nonprofit estimates around 680,000 Louisianans, or roughly one in seven people, face food insecurity.
“The numbers make it clear that the need in our state is great, and at Entergy, we understand how important it is to support local nonprofits that are working to reduce food insecurity,” said Phillip May, Entergy Louisiana president and CEO. “Having access to nutritious meals helps children to be more focused in school and, ultimately, it lends to the overall health and well-being of families and our communities.”
“Entergy is committed to improving the communities we serve, and the fight against food insecurity is critical to that goal,” said Deanna Rodriguez, president and CEO of Entergy New Orleans. “We are proud to be helping those in need – not just during the holidays, but all year long.”
