Entergy Arkansas, other partners to provide free tax return assistance during Super Tax Day events

02/05/2024

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – IRS-certified volunteers with Entergy Arkansas and other nonprofit partners will provide free tax return preparation for qualified customers as part of the federal Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program and other services at Super Tax Day events this month.

The largest Super Tax Day event for Arkansas is open to the public and will be held Saturday, Feb. 10 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in partnership with Arkansas Asset Builders at Our House, 302 E. Roosevelt Rd., Little Rock 72206. Appointments are recommended and can be scheduled online at www.arkansasassetbuilders.org/event/super-tax-day, but walk-ins are also welcomed.

Other Entergy Arkansas Super Tax Day dates, time and locations include:

  • Saturday, Feb. 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Southern Bancorp, 425 E. Plaza, West Helena, 72390.
  • Saturday, Feb. 24 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., St. Bernards Medical Center Auditorium, 505 E. Washington Ave., Jonesboro 72401.
  • Saturday, March 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Goodwill Industries, 7400 Scott Hamilton Dr., Little Rock 72209.

Customers unable to attend an event in their area can still receive free, in-person tax preparation services by scheduling an appointment at one of the several Entergy-sponsored VITA sites through April 15. A schedule is available online at entergy.com/freetaxhelp.

“Our Super Tax Day events are an important part of our commitment to making a difference in our communities and meeting our customers' needs in ways that improve their everyday lives,” said Brandi Hinkle with Entergy Arkansas Corporate Social Responsibility. “Tax season can be a challenging time of year for many of our customers, and we want to make sure they are able navigate the return process more easily and receive the most money for which they’re eligible.”

Entergy is committed to creating a diverse, inclusive and engaged culture that inspires all individuals to work together to operate a world-class energy business for customers, employees, communities and owners. That commitment extends into the community and is reflected through philanthropy, volunteerism and advocacy that encourages individuals to take action.

“We are also pleased to partner with Arkansas Asset Builders and Our House,” Hinkle said, who added that a $2,000 donation will be given to Our House with additional funding being provided to Arkansas Asset Builders. “These two organizations are dedicated to empowering individuals and families in need in becoming more independent, financially stable and successful in the workforce, school and our communities.”

Qualified individuals and families include those with a 2023 income of less than $64,000, taxpayers with disabilities, and limited-English speaking households. During the Super Tax Day events, customers receive counseling regarding tax credits and deductions they may be eligible for, including the federal Earned Income Tax Credit, one of the nation’s most effective means of lifting Americans out of poverty. Tax preparation volunteers will help customers determine if they are eligible for this and other tax credits in an effort to maximize their tax refunds.

VITA services are not only free, they are also a reliable and trusted source for preparing tax returns. All volunteers who prepare returns must take and pass tax law training that meets or exceeds IRS standards. This training includes maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of all taxpayer information. In addition to requiring volunteers to certify their knowledge of the tax laws, the IRS requires a quality review check for every return prepared at a VITA site prior to filing.

For the most accurate assistance and timely filing, customers should bring their state-issued photo identification, Social Security cards for all dependents, all wage and earnings statements such as W9s, daycare receipts, Form 1095 Health Insurance statements and routing information for direct deposit. For a complete checklist, visit www.irs.gov/individuals/checklist-for-free-tax-return-preparation.

In addition to tax preparation at Super Tax Day, customers will also receive information on how to enroll their children ages 16 and younger in Kids to College, a free child savings account powered by Entergy. Entergy will contribute $50 and match any savings in the account up to $365 this calendar year for each child.

Additional service providers will be also on hand throughout the day, including the Arkansas Foodbank, Arkansas Department of Human Services, Entergy Solutions, Legal Aid of Arkansas, and other wealth management groups.

For more than 15 years, Entergy has provided free tax preparation for low-to-moderate income customers at VITA sites throughout the Entergy region, including locations across Arkansas. This year’s Super Tax Day events will take place at locations throughout Arkansas, making it convenient for customers to take advantage of this free and valuable service.
