Entergy Charitable Foundation Issues Nearly $800,000 in Grants

NEW ORLEANS – More than 50 nonprofit groups will receive nearly $800,000 in grants from the Entergy Charitable Foundation.

The latest round of grants from the foundation included a $75,000 gift to the United Negro College Fund, Inc. to fund scholarships at Philander College, Dillard University, Xavier University, Southern University, Tougaloo College, Rust College and Prairie View A&M. The fund's goal is to double the number of graduates from its 39 member colleges from 8,000 today to 16,000 by the spring of 2020.

In other education-related grants, the foundation gave:

  • a $54,000 grant to the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund to help fund $500 scholarships to single mothers and fathers trying to earn a college degree;
  • a $50,000 grant to Teach for America as part of Entergy's long-term support for the group's six-year plan to triple the number of its teachers in the Delta region to 550 and partner with high-needs districts in the Delta regions of Mississippi and Arkansas; and
  • a $50,000 grant to Louisiana Public Broadcasting for its Raising Readers/Between the Lions Literacy Project in New Orleans
