Waterford 3 gifts $5,000 to Mimosa Park Elementary, raises awareness about nuclear energy

KILLONA, La.— Entergy Waterford 3 employees recently competed in a nacho cook-off, but the real winner was Mimosa Park Elementary School.

Local leaders served as judges, including Mimosa Park Principal Angi Butler. That provided the perfect opportunity for site leaders to present a $5,000 gift to Butler for the school’s science, technology, engineering and math program, while also raising awareness about nuclear energy and the benefits of clean, carbon-free power.

Seven employee groups participated in the cook-off. Along with Butler, judges included John Dias, CEO, United Way of St. Charles; Holly Fonseca, councilwoman-at-large, Division B, St. Charles Parish; La Sandra Darensbourg Gordon, councilwoman, District 1, St. Charles Parish; Dr. Ken Oertling, superintendent, St. Charles Parish Schools, and Mike Palamone, chief administrative officer, St. Charles Parish.

The winning team was “Safety Is Our Number One Priority.” Along with bragging rights, the team received a one-of-a-kind trophy crafted by Waterford’s mechanical maintenance team.

Waterford leaders presented Butler with a ceremonial check representing the monetary award.
