Work Boosts Local Economy by Bringing in 1,100 Additional Workers

Control room operators shut down Entergy’s Indian Point Unit 3 nuclear power plant in Buchanan this morning to begin a nearly $100 million refueling and maintenance outage after 453 days of continuous operation. This work brings 1,000 additional workers and economic benefits to the region, and reinforces Entergy’s commitment to continued safe and reliable operations through the plant’s planned permanent shutdown in 2021.

Entergy and Exelon Generation prepare plant, employees for integration into Exelon nuclear fleet

The Indian Point Energy Center emergency notification sirens will sound during a regular quarterly test of the system on Wednesday, February 15 between 1:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Control room operators removed Entergy’s River Bend Nuclear Station from service on Jan. 28 to begin its 19th scheduled refueling and maintenance outage. River Bend is investing more than $61 million to complete the refueling and other important projects. That investment translates to additional economic activity for the surrounding communities from dozens of vendors and over 1,100 additional contract workers, many from outside the area.

Entergy Corporation has announced that Bill Mohl, president of  Entergy Wholesale Commodities and a corporate officer, will retire after more than 35 years in the energy business effective Feb. 28, 2017.

The two operating units at the Indian Point Energy Center will close in 2020-2021 after powering New York for more than four decades with clean, safe, and reliable electricity. The shutdown will complete Entergy’s exit from its merchant power business because of sustained low wholesale energy prices.
